US Visa Renewal Guidance for Your Next Step
Before planning a US visa renewal, check which document is expiring and what you need to do next. You may need a new visa for travel, more time in the United States, or an employer petition extension. These steps serve different purposes.
LOIGICA helps businesses and visa holders review the relevant dates, assess the appropriate process, and prepare the agreed filings. We connect your travel plans with your immigration record so you understand what needs attention first.
Visa renewal vs extension
People often use “renewal” to describe several immigration procedures. The distinction matters because completing one does not automatically complete the others.
Your visa’s expiration date does not determine how long you may remain after admission. Review your I-94 and any later USCIS approval, together with the rules for maintaining your status. A visa also does not guarantee entry.
When to review your situation

You do not need to know the correct form before contacting us. Start with your visa category, current location, and the date or trip that concerns you.
How LOIGICA helps with renewal planning
Our review begins with the documents you already have. Depending on your circumstances and engagement, assistance may include:
For employers, the goal is to plan around actual immigration requirements and staffing needs. A visa renewal application alone does not extend employment authorization. We assess that question separately rather than assume a filing keeps an employee authorized to work.
What the US visa renewal process involves
We review your passport, visa, admission record, and relevant approval notices. Tell us about previous applications and any planned departure. This helps determine whether the next step involves consular processing, a USCIS request, or both.
An earlier approval does not replace the need to qualify again. For an employment-related matter, changes in duties, location, or the sponsoring business may affect the analysis. We explain what evidence the current request needs.
Many nonimmigrant visa applications use Form DS-160. An extension of stay generally uses Form I-129 or I-539, depending on the classification. These forms are not interchangeable. We define the work included in your engagement before preparing the relevant submission.
Consular applicants should check the applicable post’s instructions before paying fees or booking travel. Current State Department guidance generally directs applicants to their country of nationality or residence, with designated posts and exceptions in some situations.
We help you understand required documents and the next steps within the agreed scope. Scheduling, additional review, and the final decision remain with the government.

Documents that help us assess the case
Useful records include your current and previous passports, visa, latest I-94, approval notices, and relevant prior filings. Employment-related cases may also require updated employer records. Share any refusal notice or request for additional information.
If a record is missing or contains an error, tell us. A review of what actually happened is more useful than repeating information from an earlier application without checking it.
Frequently asked questions
Can I renew an expired US visa?
An expired visa does not automatically prevent a new application. Eligibility depends on your category, history, and current circumstances. Expiration of the visa and expiration of authorized stay are different issues; any overstay requires separate assessment.
Can I renew my visa while inside the United States?
Most nonimmigrant visa renewals involve a U.S. embassy or consulate abroad, subject to limited exceptions or specific programs. An approved extension of stay from USCIS does not itself issue a new visa in your passport.
Does renewal qualify for an interview waiver?
Not automatically. Eligibility depends on the visa category, prior visa, timing, and other criteria under the current rules. A consular officer can still require an interview. We check the applicable requirements rather than assume that a previous visa removes the interview requirement.
How long is US visa renewal processing time?
There is no single timeline. Appointment availability, document submission, administrative processing, and passport return can affect your plans. Published appointment estimates do not guarantee issuance or a return date. Discuss time-sensitive travel before committing to it.
What is the US visa renewal fee?
Government charges depend on the visa category, nationality, and procedure. USCIS petition or application fees may also apply when an extension is needed. Legal fees and document expenses are separate. We explain the proposed work and identify the applicable charges for your case.
Can I keep working while an extension is pending?
Some categories allow continued employment after a qualifying, timely filing, subject to specific limits. Others do not. A pending visa application is not general permission to work. The answer requires review of your classification and filing history.
Do family members renew automatically with me?
No. A spouse or child may need a separate application or request, with different documents and dates. Tell us who will travel or remain in the United States so we can identify the relevant family considerations.
